The Comparison Culture

"I had a good weekend, did you?"

This sounds like we are enquiring whether another person had a weekend they would define as good; which usually is either exciting, relaxing, satisfying, or a combination thereof.

But do we really care?

Most of the time, the real question we want answered is:

"Was your weekend better than mine?"

It is not a question of whether or not people are competitive; everyone is. It is only a matter of to what degree.

This is a good thing. Healthy competition breeds progress and innovation. If we can acknowledge that necessity is the mother of invention, we can understand that progress and innovation bring about changes in our needs; therefore creating new opportunities for invention.

Competition, by definition is "to strive against another or others to attain a goal, such as an advantage or a victory" (Answers.com). It exists because we admit to our imperfections and acknowledge that our ideas are not the be-all end-all; that there will always be a better way to do a specific task. If victory in this sense is a better life for all, competition therefore is to strive against each other in an effort to improve all lives.

However, this concept is lost on many people. We are blatantly exposed to competitive culture from the moment we are born ("My daughter is prettier; my son can say more words; my twins can play the piano"), but are not educated on the reasoning behind it. To further complicate matters, misguided parents often make money, status, and fame the main things in life a child should compete for.

Little or no emphasis is put on the reasoning behind the concept of competition as we receive our education beginning at a young age. What we are exposed to is simply a culture of "be better than him/her". Where is the goodwill? What are the explanations on why it is necessary to aim for a smaller number in the class ranking list?

At this point, I'm glad to be able to discern the difference between "better" and "good". Something that is better may not necessarily be good.

We need to realize what we are shaping ourselves into, be more aware of what we absorb, and learn to pick the fights worth fighting. If not for our ourselves, at least for those who will be part of our lives later on.

Latest on our DPMs

Newsbreak!
Anwar Ibrahim's latest blogpost has explosive news on the Altantuya case.
Just reading it here, thousands of miles away has my skin tingling.
It really seems like a tv show now, only more dramatic than any show.
Because Malaysia doesn't have it's own laws; her politicians make them.

How now?
All worms crawling out of the can.
Interesting, things will be.
Likely to be historical; but will it make it into future Sejarah textbooks?
And Justice For All.. so says Metallica.
Time will tell.

Everyone should read the full Statutory Declaration [PDF] by P. Balasubramaniam.
Digest the information, think, and decide for yourself.
Yes, Najib and Rosmah probably skipped the digesting part and are shitting themselves now.

Hahaha..
All good things come to an end; even cover-ups.
Honestly, I can't even imagine what's going to happen.
All the while, justice has been manipulated in Malaysia.
How would they deal with it now?
Are there any good people, is there any justice left?

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

You know I should sue the Malaysian media for mental trauma. In the span of less than a week, they have served me with news that two ex-DPMs have engaged in anal intercourse. Now I can't even fantasize in peace, cos images of those two fellers invade my mind every now and then.

...oooh..Jessica..Jessica Alba...JessicaaaAAnwar buttsecks!! *AARGH WTF*

..Mmm..Megan...Megan Fox..MegannnnNNajib buttsecks!! *AAAARGH WTF*

mcbpkmljccb.

Really disturbing I tell you.

Let's see what I've heard about the DPMs.

DPM #1: Charismatic, great speaker who draws thousands easily. Fiery and able to inspire people. The rakyat was/is inspired with confidence and visions of a better Malaysia, but the previous PM was inspired with fear. Therefore a big fuss was made about this DPM's supposed anal activities. I've heard nothing bad about his family life. His wife led the Malaysian Opposition, and his (hot chun) daughter is now an MP for Lembah Pantai. Exemplary family in terms of leadership and service to the country.

DPM #2: Boring speaker who draws hundreds (of UMNO members) easily. Bald and able to inspire crooked businessmen. The rakyat was/is showered with denials and news of submarine sales, while the current PM was/is sleeping. Now a sworn statement has been released containing a clause detailing that he had "a sexual relationship with" Altantuya Shariibuu, who "is susceptible to anal sex". I've heard nothing good about his family life. His wife led the Malaysian shopping expedition to London using the taxpayers' money, and his children are simply the sum of their parts. Exemplary family in terms of corruption and disservice to the country.

I might be arrested and charged for this.

Anyway, life goes on.

To all those in America, Happy Independence Day! Celebrate! :D

To all those at home, start bracing yourselves for a thrilling time :D

To everyone else, have a good weekend :)

Loupo Zhai

On June 12, 2008, someone came into my life. I was waiting for her for so long. Years, in fact. The moment she was born I yearned for her. Thinking about her sporadically yet consistently, I knew it was only a matter of time before fates drew us together.

I read about her online. She looked prettier every time I saw her. She was like a fine wine; coming into her own as time passed. The older she was, the more refined and closer to achieving her true potential: the Ultimate entertainment machine. Far from being an object, she was an organic being, capable of conjuring and delivering joy to the one who had the privilege of being with her.

A few months ago, I had heard of this auspicious date: June 12th, 2008. It seemed that whoever got her on this date would also get to meet Solid Snake, he of Metal Gear Solid fame, for his last incarnation; in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. And so I embarked on my journey.

Rose bright and early and was waiting for her at 7am. She would only be emerging at 10am, but 3 hours was a small price to pay for our impending union.

This was where my darling was being held. I wonder if she suffered, being kept in the dark and behind bars for some time. She was guilty of no crime! I vowed to keep her safe and happy.

The time finally came. First in line, I strode proudly over to the counter and negotiated my beauty's freedom! The man who had custody over her was overwhelmed by the riches I threw at him. He happily traded my love for some petty currency. One man's meat is another man's poison, I suppose.

And so we were! She was so shy at first, still fully clothed. We exchanged sly glances at each other, and immediately there was a connection. If you were there, you would've sworn there were sparks flying. She winked, beckoned, and motioned for me to come over.

I couldn't help myself. I declared my love to her. She responded, shyly whispering her embarrassment but physically motioning for me to remove her coat. And hopefully more. I was bewitched. I was obliged to obey. I pulled off her coat slowly.

She appeared more comfortable as her coat slid off slowly off her slender frame. My hand was trembling, but I persevered, knowing I would be rewarded soon.

I couldn't believe my eyes. Even fully clothed, I could already feel her intense presence. It was as if I had x-ray vision. I couldn't wait. I plowed even further down the road of no return.

There she was, standing in her pretty clothing.

She shyly stepped out of her coat.

I helped her dispose of it (threw it somewhere).

She lay down for me, letting me look at her.

..even turned over, letting me see her back.

I was twitching with excitement. I undid the seal that held her clothes together.

..unhooked her clasp.

Opened her top..

And got her out of the first layer of clothes.

Unhooked the second clasp.

A peek at the secret she held within, MGS4!!

SOLID SNAKE REVEALED.

Holding MGS4 in my hand. I felt electric shocks run through my body. I felt like I was wearing a sneaking suit.

Delirious.

The unclothing resumed.

Got her out of the second layer of clothing.

There she lay in just her undies.

PS3

AND THERE SHE WAS. In all her shiny, sleek, glory!!

So shiny I could see myself on her.

I caressed her.

Looked at her closeup.

Checked her every nook and cranny, memorizing every detail.

Noted her markings.

Looked at her appendage.

Fingered her a little. She was very responsive, giving encouraging vibrations every now and then. I just know we were destined to have a good time together.

:D

Floating ever so slowly

Towards the other side, where the grass is greener.

Work is becoming more fun by the day. I wish I could muster the courage to write every single detail here, but that would be violating the company's confidentiality agreement. Although I do believe that we should be working toward establishing a forum that allows people from all walks of life to contribute their ideas. Any and every idea that brings about good, effective change in our lives somehow will be accepted and circulated.

We are our own limit. If you are not allowed to achieve your true potential where you are now, find somewhere where that isn't true. We can achieve great things, given the time and space.

Lingua

Language above all else, is important. Any assignment you take on at work or while studying involves language. Any correspondence, queries, requests, be they written or spoken, involves language.

The mark of effective people is in their language style and skill in manipulating it to suit their purposes. No great person in a great company, country, or organization, for that matter ever spoke their language in a manner less than awe-inspiring. Bear in mind, only the great ones. Leaders. CEOs. Directors. Prime Ministers. Presidents.

The great ones are remembered to this day, however long ago their time of leadership was. What are they remembered by? Their actions, sometimes inactions, and their speeches. Strings of words that offer us an insight into their superior intellect and vision, at the same time inspiring us to take action according to their recommendations.

"The limit of my language is the limit of my world."
Ludwig Wittgenstein

Those who diligently cultivate, practice, refine, and eventually perfect their mastery of a language will see that people from higher places will begin to notice them. Language is what moves and inspires action, and given equal technical ability, effective lingual skills will differentiate the best from the rest.

Those who neglect language, however, will find themselves moving nowhere fast. No enterprise, job, or meaningful pursuit had no language involved in it. Getting a job requires above-average interviewing skill. Getting a date requires even more. Even competitive sportsmen need to have a powerful command of language. They have talent, but need to read sports journals, fitness reports and recommendations, understand what their coach tells them, and when successful, also attend press conferences and interviews. All of which they wouldn't be able to do well if they do not have a good command of language.

How do we improve? Read. And eventually, write. There are people who read and write well, and there are people who deal with visuals better than text. There are also people who do just fine either way. Find yourself and work your way up from where you are.

Speak and write properly. With good technical ability and language skills, one can choose where he wants to be. Whether in the highest room of the highest glass building in the highest part of the country, or the lowest point in the lowest ditch in the region, it becomes a matter of choice. But no one who wasn't an effective user of language ever got to choose where he went.

Master a language or three. Or find an honest lawyer to befriend and use. You decide which is easier.
